Sidecar by Merlet cocktail competition in Stockholm

On September 2, some of the finest bartenders from Sweden, Denmark and Finland had gathered at Reisen Bar in Stockholm for the Scandinavian finals of the international cocktail competition Sidecar by Merlet. The challenge was to create two cocktails - one twist on the Sidecar using Merlet cognac and triple sec, and an original creation using gin, rum or tequila as the base spirit as well as at least one of the Merlet liqueurs apricot, cassis and pear.

After all contestants had presented their cocktails in front of the jury, which among others included Tony Conigliaro of 69 Colebrooke Row fame, it was soon announced that the winner was none other than Jonas B. Andersen who works at Strøm in Copenhagen - congratulations! He will now compete in the European finals in Cognac next month for the opportunity to win a trip to Tales of the Cocktail 2014.

50 ml Merlet Brothers Blend Cognac
15 ml fresh lemon juice
10 ml Merlet Trois Citrus
10 ml Théophile Champagne syrup

Torry Bastard
15 ml Merlet Lune d'Abricot
50 ml gin
15 ml sweet vermouth
20 ml orange juice
dash of lemon juice
dash of pimento dram
