Second World Class qualifying round in Stockholm

Monday April 16 saw the second Swedish qualifying round of Diageo Reserve World Class at Nobis Hotel here in Stockholm. Fifteen of Sweden's best bartenders competed against each other for a spot in the European finals in London in the end of May.

Mattias Skoog

The theme of the competition was "Gentleman's serve" and was judged by Salvatore Calabrese (Salvatore at Playboy), Andy Pearson (Intoxicology), Per Styregård (White Guide) and Alf Tumble (Fokus krog).

Robert Radovic
I was only able to attend the competition in the afternoon, and by then eleven of the competitors had already been eliminated. The final four were Robert Radovic (The Gold Bar/Nobis Hotel), Boudy Ghostine (Miss Voon), Mattias Skoog (The Gold Bar/Nobis Hotel) and Andreas Andersson (Boom Boom Room), and for the final challenge they had ten minutes each to impress the judges with their technique, creativity, product knowledge and of course also cocktail quality.

In my opinion they all did a very good job, unfortunately I didn't get the chance to sample all of their drinks, though. Robert and Boudy gave the most nervous performances, which might have influenced the final result - because when "The Maestro" announced the winners after a very long day, Mattias and Andreas had impressed the judges the most and will represent Sweden together with Rikard Enell in London - congratulations and good luck!

Andreas Andersson

I was also supposed to publish the two winning cocktail recipes, but I haven't received them yet so I will make a separate post instead... cheers!
