Stockholm bar reviews - Cantineros and AG

The bar scene in Stockholm is very much alive at the moment, there seems to be new cocktail bars opening all the time. I just hope that there's room for all of them, considering that Stockholm is quite small. Anyway, two great recently opened bars I want to share with you are:

Kronobergsgatan 37

Bacon-infused Old Fashioned @ AG
When I heard that Liquid Management were working on a new bar concept for AG, I couldn't wait for the opening - and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's basically the same bar, with the addition of a small cocktail menu based on bourbon. First I tried their barrel aged Boulevardier, which is served from a small oak barrel - and it was great even though it clearly hadn't been aged long enough. Next up was a Bacon-infused Old Fashioned, nothing new but very suitable for AG and perfectly executed, using leftover bacon fat from the restaurant. Last but not least I tried their New York Sour with a Sangria float (to go with their tapas menu) - not bad but maybe too much Sangria for my taste.

I also had the opportunity to take a sip of most other cocktails on the menu, but I definitely need to go back as soon as possible to try them out for real - especially the barrel aged Boulevardier. In conclusion, the new cocktail menu is a very nice upgrade for AG - and I can easily see myself stopping by for a cocktail or two on a regular basis, even though the location is a bit off for me. Well done!

Cantineros
Kornhamnstorg 53

Cantineros
Cantineros opened a few weeks ago in Old Town, with the aim to bring the fabric of the classic Cuban bar of the 20's and 30's to Stockholm. To be honest I think they've done a really good job - it's definitely one of my favourite bars at the moment. You feel welcome as soon as you enter and see the big wooden spirits cabinet and bar counter to your left. There's one more room further inside where you can enjoy the delicious South American food (but you're allowed to eat everywhere) - and also another space downstairs resembling a cantina, suitable for private events, tastings etc. - but it's at the bar the magic happens.

The cocktail menu is quite extensive, mainly rum based, with different Daiquiris, Mojitos and lots of other fun stuff. Some of my favourites so far are La Choca Nostra (Tequila Old Fashioned with cacao liqueur), Mai Tai (true to the original but with a bourbon float), Tongue Tickler (Rum, Chartreuse, St-Germain, falernum and cucumber) and Parraty (Cinnamon-infused Cachaca, white peach and probably something else).

I can only imagine how great Cantineros will be in summer, when you can sit outside and sip on a cocktail perfectly executed by one of the suitably dressed up bartenders, but it's definitely a place to visit anytime you're in the mood for a great cocktail. Highly recommended!
