Tiki in Finland

Recently, two tiki bars have opened in Finland, they're both called Kokomo and can be found in Helsinki and Lahti. The Helsinki bar also serves food, and the cocktails at both places are largely based on recipes by Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic. Can't wait to try them out!

Please visit their website for more info (in Finnish) and pictures:

They can also be found on Facebook:

The first printed European cocktail book?

I finally managed to get myself a copy of a reproduction of the (alleged) first printed European cocktail book - RECEPT Å BAR-DRINKAR (John Ljunggren, 1917). The author was a well-respected bartender at Operabaren, and later on at his own Ljunggrens Bar - both in central Stockholm, Sweden. According to the foreword, all recipes are from memory and were written down after requests from customers and friends. The book contains approximately 200 recipes of cocktails, cobblers, punches, flips, sours, sangarees, fizzes, smashes, slings, juleps and so on... a very nice addition to any vintage cocktail book collection - highly recommended!
